Jaime Sanz is Global Head of Sovereign Advisory at Societe Generale, where he is responsible for advising the bank’s sovereign and public-sector clients on topics including credit ratings, ESG risk and investor credit positioning. Jaime joined SG from Fitch Ratings, where he was Senior Director and Head of Emerging Markets Structured Finance for the EMEA region since 2007. Prior to that, Jaime was a Director in the Debt Capital Markets and Sovereign Advisory Groups at Merrill Lynch between 2000 and 2006. At Merrill’s, Jaime led numerous advisory and financing assignments with sovereign clients including Italy, Turkey, Poland, Brazil and Chile, among others. Jaime was part of the Merrill team that restructured US$93 billion of Argentinian sovereign debt in 2002. Jaime’s background includes senior positions in the Sovereign Ratings Groups at Standard & Poor’s and Fitch, both in London and New York. During his time at these agencies, Jaime led the analytical teams for Latin America, Europe and EMEA, completing sovereign credit research for more than 50 countries. Jaime has an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business and a Master in International Economics from the Colegio de Economistas in Madrid, Spain.
